Inge Fiedler is the Associate Research Microscopist at the Art Institute of Chicago. She began her apprenticeship training in painting conservation and microanalytical techniques in the conservation department at the Art Institute in 1973. Her training was supplemented with specialized courses in optical microscopy and instrumental analysis. She received her MFA and BFA in Studio Art, both from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has concentrated primarily on research of painting materials, with a particular interest in those used during the 19th century, and is currently researching materials used by Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh.
