Dr. Eric F. Hansen, PhD, Archaeology, University of California, Los Angeles (2000) also holds previous additional B. S degrees in Engineering and Chemistry as well as an M. S Degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, University California, Irvine. He is a Fellow of both the AIC and IIC, has served on many national and international standards committees, and is currently consulting with the Museums of New Mexico, Conservation Department, on the developing and funding of expansive conservation science facilities and capabilities with the aim of preserving Southwestern United State archaeological and historical cultural artifacts and structures. Previously Chief of the Preservation Research and Technical Studies Department in the Preservation Division of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., where he performed a similar function developing and expanding the Conservation Science program, followed over 20 years of research as a Scientist at the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles. Having published over fifty articles and monographs in this field, he is primarily known for work on conservation treatments (highly deteriorated painted surfaces), preservation of proteins (silk and parchment), building materials (lime mortars and mortar additives); and, the archaeology and painted architectural sculpture of the Ancient Maya in what is now Mexico and Guatemala.
