Lara Kaplan earned an M.S. from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC), specializing in objects conservation, and gained additional training and experience at the Walters Art Museum, the Arizona State Museum, the National Park Service, the Smithsonian Museum Conservation Institute, and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. She has been in private practice since 2005.
